Now that all scouts are back in school, we are back to mandatory class A uniforms at our troop meetings.  Patrol Leaders please ensure your patrol members adhere to this rule.
At yesterday's troop meeting Sean G.  and Brian C. demonstrated proficiency and utilized the EDGE method to instruct fellow scouts in the skill of lashing, for that reason they are now able to sign 1st class requirement 7a.  If you need this requirement signed off please see them or an adult leader.
At yesterday's troop meeting several adult leaders volunteered to help me provide scouts with instruction, guidance and to be assigned to different patrols.   These are the assignments:
Crusaders:  Mrs. Goodwin
  Sushi: Mr. Giometti
Scouts of the Square Table: Mr. Yingst
(more assignements to come)

Please remember that Sept 12 is our PLC (prepare summer camp recommendations), no troop meeting.
Sept 19 we will use what we learned about lashings and will build camp gadgets.
Sept 26 is our Court of Honor, all families are encouraged to attend, please bring a dessert to share.

At our last troop meeting Mr. Arnolde and I talked to all scouts about our code of conduct at meetings and campouts.  It is very important  we all understand, agree, and sign the code of conduct form.  One key aspect of the code of conduct is the hands-off policy.  I can summarize it by saying, be kind and respectful towards all your fellow scouts.    For those who were not at our last troop meeting Mr. Arnolde will bring additional copies for you to read and sign.

Based on your votes, we will be meeting on Labor day, Monday, September 5 for a normal troop meeting.   The main topic is going to be lashings.   I will provide ropes and instuction.   If you want to be an instructor and be able to sign off on your fellow scouts' books, please remember that you need to demonstate proficiency and use the EDGE method.
Things you will need to know:

  • Terms:  Wrap, Frap, and Spar
  • When to use lashings
  • Type of lashings: Square, Shear, Diagonal, Tripod, and Round

Please plan to attend our Sept. 9 Cathoree campout.   Mr. Mahler sent out the regristaton and permission form via e-mail.

What a wonderful adventure we just accomplished as a troop.   We just completed an almost 700 mile bike ride from Batavia, IL all the way to Niagara Falls, Canada.  Our boys learned much about themselves, about caring for one another, perseverance, good planning, hard work, having fun, making new friends and knowing that dreams can be realized.   I can not forget to thank God for watching over us as we biked through little towns, big cities, gravel roads, sandy roads, swamps, sleepy roads and  highways.   I can not wait for what our boys have in store as our next adventure.

On Monday July 25 we held our Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meeting.   All scouts are expected to return the tents used during summer camp cleaned and dried.

On Saturday July 16, the Niagara Falls Crew rode to Chicago lake shore and back.  It was an eventfull 82mile bike ride with a great lunch stop over at millenium park.   The crew is well prepared and ready for the challenge ahead of us.   This weekend we will be going over the meal planning and crew / personal gear shakedown.  Read your e-mails.

Troop tent clean up activity went well. We had over 30 scouts in attendance. We checked and serviced over 25 tents.  It was a lot of fun, and we had plenty of good food.   If you have any of the troop tents in your posession please let Mr. Giometti know.   It is important to keep our records up to date.

The Niagara Fall bike trip  preparations continue as planned.   On Saturday we rode 72 miles at an average speed of 13.5 mph.  On Sunday we had our mechanical shake down.  All bikes are in good repair and set to go.

Summer Camp.  Please read e-mails from Mr. Mahler and Mr. Jochum.  All medical forms and blue cards need to be submitted at Monday's troop meeting.    We are almost ready for a week full of fun.

Our second Sea Base crew just came back from Florida.  They also had a great time !!    We should be posting pictures shortly,

Plase plan to attend our summer camp gear checkout  this Friday. See Mr. Giometti's e-mail.

Our Niagara Falls bike trip is in its final  preparation phase.  We have trained hard for the last 4 months and have received a tremendous amount of support from our local community, for which we are very grateful.   I am very pleased that all of our boys are rising to the physical and mental challenges of hard and continued training  It is nice to see their great attitude and the camaraderie, care and unity they are developing to effectively ride as a pack.  It is great to see them complete a ride after conquering what they thought would otherwise be impossible (strong head winds, a vey long and steep set of hills, a very long ride, etc).
Over the July 4th weekend our crew rode over 150 miles.  It is awesome to see this set of boys grow through hard work and determination and little by little turn into the men we wish them to be.

Our next troop meeting is Monday, July 11.   Patrol leaders please ensure all your patrol members wear complete class A uniform.
